Celebrations in Hallein: company parties, weddings & birthdays at the Bräustübl

By Bräustübl Kaltenhausen

Großer Gewölbesaal für Feiern im Bräustübl Kaltenhausen

Whether it is a company party, a wedding, a milestone birthday or a Christmas party: at Bräustübl Kaltenhausen you celebrate where beer has been brewed since 1475. Under centuries-old vaults, just about ten minutes by car from the city of Salzburg, every group finds the right setting, from a regulars' table of eight to a wedding party of 200 guests.

Why celebrate in Hallein?

Many hosts are looking for a venue that offers more than a nice hall. At the Bräustübl, three things come together that you rarely find in one place: real history, food for every occasion and beer that comes straight from the rock cellar. Salzburg's mayor Hans Elsenheimer had the "Cold Brewhouse" built at the foot of the Barmstein rocks in 1475, and guests can still feel this history in every room. At the same time the house is easy to reach, directly on the B159 with a bus stop at the door. For guests from Salzburg, the Tennengau and neighbouring Bavaria the journey is short.

Six rooms for every group size

From a small parlour to the Gothic vault, there is the right room for every celebration.

  • Rupertigwölb (approx. 200 seats): the Gothic vault from 1475, dedicated to Salzburg's patron saint and carefully restored in 1994. The setting for weddings, concerts, anniversaries and large company events.
  • Bräustübl with Sudhaus Bar (approx. 80 seats): rustic and convivial among the brewing kettles where beer is actually brewed on site, complemented since 2020 by the modern Sudhaus Bar and the beer garden in the courtyard.
  • Bürgerstube (approx. 50 seats): the traditional meeting place of Hallein's citizens, ideal for clubs and regulars' parties.
  • Jägerstüberl (approx. 50 seats): traditionally furnished and popular with hunters and nature lovers.
  • F.X. Gruber Stüberl (approx. 40 seats): dedicated to Franz Xaver Gruber, composer of "Silent Night", who is known to have enjoyed Kaltenhausen beer in Hallein. Particularly atmospheric for Christmas parties.
  • Barmstoastüberl (approx. 30 seats): dedicated to the Barmstein rocks, Hallein's "ears". Small and exclusive, secluded yet in the middle of things.

Which room suits which occasion?

For a wedding with a long guest list, the Rupertigwölb is the first choice: the vault has room for the banquet table, music and dancing. For a company party or Christmas party with 30 to 80 people, the Bräustübl with Sudhaus Bar or one of the larger parlours works well. A milestone birthday with family is cosiest in the Barmstoastüberl or the Jägerstüberl. And if you are planning a seminar or workshop, you can combine the meeting with seminar catering and a convivial evening.

Food to suit the occasion

Set menu, buffet, snack buffet or cocktail reception, seminar catering or a roast and spare-rib feast: the Bräustübl team puts together an offer that suits your occasion, from traditional to creative. For beer lovers there is a dedicated beer tasting menu with dishes matched to the Kaiser beer specialities. A classic for convivial groups is "Bratl in da Rein": oven-fresh roast pork served in the roasting pan in the middle of the table. Read more in our article Bratl in da Rein.

Keg tapping to start the party

A highlight for any celebration: you or the birthday guest show your skill tapping the 20-litre wooden keg, glasses and apron included. The tapping is the perfect start and makes for plenty of photos. Please book the keg tapping in advance.

Planning tips

  • Ask early: especially for Christmas parties in December and weddings in summer, it pays to secure your date early.
  • Estimate the number of guests: an approximate number is enough for your first request, so we can suggest the right room.
  • Tell us your wishes: vegetarian dishes, children at the table or a highlight such as keg tapping: the more we know, the more precise our offer.

How to request your event

We accept bookings for ten or more guests in writing. Send us your date, number of guests and wishes via the page Celebrations at the Bräustübl, and we will get back to you with a tailored offer, including our room rental terms on request.
